Ogre Details
Ogres, also known as the Horned-People, are a tall and strongly-built people known for their strength and distinguished by they horns and fangs. While they once were widespread and wielded a great deal of power in Kamiato, their number has steadily declined over the past several centuries due to massive reduction in birth rates, the cause of which is unknown.
Appearance and Physiology
Ogres are humanoids distinguished by their height and large builds, in addition to the two short horns protruding from their forehead. They also have prominent canine teeth. The average ogre stands between six and seven feet tall, and lives around 70 years on average. These lifespans are typically slightly shorter than that of a human, though it is not unusual for them to have lifespans equal to that of a human as well. Ogres also reach physical maturity a year or two faster than the average human. Ogres have had a birth rate that rivalled that of humans and orcs, but over the past several centuries, this rate has steadily declined for unknown reasons, and not for lack of ogres trying.
Distinctive ogre facial features include a prominent brow and nose, with a fairly flat transition from the brow into the bridge of the nose. Their horns typically finish growing around the age of maturity, but may continue to grow slowly for the rest of their lifetime. A mature ogre's horns are usually no longer than the height of the ogre's face (from brow to chin).
Society
Owing to their short lifespans and low birth rate, the population of ogres in Kamiato is small. They were more widespread in past centuries, but in the current era they have very few homogenous societies. Most ogres and half-ogres are found amidst human, orcish, and occasionally elven settlements. Some choose a peaceful life, their strong bodies are well suited to various kinds of labor. Others, taken by wanderlust or a desire to uncover the curse that has befallen their people, choose the life of a rōnin.
